Cherry Ice Cream Recipes

Cherries are a delicious fruit. They come in two main varieties, sweet and sour (tart). They both can be eaten fresh but many prefer to include tart cherries in recipes such as cherry ice cream recipes, cherry soda recipes, cherry pie recipes and so on.

Cherry ice cream recipes are useful at any time of the year as cherry ice cream can be eaten at any time, not just in the summer. Cherries ripen during the summer but they can be frozen and used during other times of the year when the cherries are not in season.

There are many different cherry ice cream recipes available in recipe books and on the internet. You can use any of the recipes or use the ideas from them to come up with your own cherry ice cream recipe.

Here is one of the popular cherry ice cream recipes:

Ingredients:

2 cups sweet cherries – sweet cherries are generally easier to find than their tart counterparts but have a milder flavor. If you can find tart cherries, you can use them for this recipe. The cherries should be pitted.
2 cups cream – the cream should be heavy as this gets the best results.
1 cup milk – You can use fat free milk if you like.
¾ cup of sugar – preferably white sugar.
A pinch of salt
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
5 ounces of chocolate finely chopped – the chocolate chips should be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to use them so that they do not melt.
3 tablespoons of cherry liqueur – you can substitute this with rum or Amaretto.

Method of preparation:

Mix the cherries, half the cream, salt and sugar and pour mixture into a saucepan. Heat on medium heat for 5 minutes, and then lower the heat. After 15 minutes, remove the mixture and puree it in a blender until a smooth consistency is achieved.

Pour the pureed mixture in a bowl and add the remaining cream. Chill mixture in the fridge until it cools completely.

Stir in the liqueur and lemon juice before putting the mixture into your ice cream maker and churn it.

Once the churning is complete add the chocolate chips and put the ice cream in an air tight container and place in a freezer for several hours.

Here is another one of the cherry ice cream recipes, for variety:
