First pit the cherries to remove the seeds. Next mix the cherries with the sugar (preferably granulated sugar) and the cornstarch. Add half a cup of water to this mixture. Put the mixture in a saucepan and put the saucepan on heat. Bring the mixture to boil stirring constantly. When it has boiled, reduce the heat to low and continue stirring the mixture. Keep it on low heat for about 10 minutes. Remove it from heat and cool it some. It is now ready to be used as pie filling.

Top up with the cherry flavored seltzer. Add ice. Mint sprigs can be used for garnish. This drink can be varied for teetotalers by simply skipping the rum and still remain delicious and refreshing.
