Two Great Fresh Cherry Recipes

Though there is nothing better than preparing fresh cherry recipes for the family, this small and tasty fruit is also known for its many health benefits. 3 pounds fresh cherries, sweet or sour
1 cup sugar (more depending on your taste)


First pit the cherries to remove the seeds. Next mix the cherries with the sugar (preferably granulated sugar) and the cornstarch. Add half a cup of water to this mixture. Put the mixture in a saucepan and put the saucepan on heat. Bring the mixture to boil stirring constantly. When it has boiled, reduce the heat to low and continue stirring the mixture. Keep it on low heat for about 10 minutes. Remove it from heat and cool it some. It is now ready to be used as pie filling.

CHERRY SMASH - Cherries are in season during the summer and there are many fresh cherry recipes for drinks that hit the spot in the sweltering heat. This recipe is an easy one and makes a cool refreshing drink. Ingredients are:

Fresh cherries
Mint leaves
Lime juice
Dark rum
Cherry flavored seltzer


Mix the pitted fresh cherries, sugar and mint leaves. The mixing can be done in a blender or mashed with a wooden spoon. Add the lime juice and the dark rum to the mixture and stir well. Top up with the cherry flavored seltzer. Add ice. Mint sprigs can be used for garnish. This drink can be varied for teetotalers by simply skipping the rum and still remain delicious and refreshing.
